California Travel Diary

Hey everyone! Things have been a little quiet on the blog the past couple of weeks, but I'm back and ready to get my weekly blog posts up and running again. Justin and I went on vacation to California a couple of weeks ago, which threw my schedule off a bit. I know I can't be the only one who struggles with getting back on track after returning from vacation :(

This trip was my first time out in California, and as expected, I was not disappointed. We spent a little time in Northern California before making our way down South; both areas of the state are beautiful! I thought it would be fun to share a little recap of what we did each day and my outfits for trip!

The first leg of our trip was spent in Monterey, California. We didn't arrive to our hotel until after 11:00 Tuesday evening (2 AM our time), so we didn't do much besides drop our bags off in the hotel room, walk across the street to grab some late night Denny's, and crash.

The great thing about going from EST to PST is that even after we got several hours of much needed sleep, we still woke up relatively early for the West Coast! We managed to get a quick workout in at our hotel gym, got cleaned up, and walked to breakfast. Justin found the cutest little place on the water called Lou Lou's; it reminded me of a life-size dollhouse! The food was amazing and the views of the water weren't too shabby either.

After eating what felt like 5 pounds of breakfast food, we thought it would be best to do a little walking so we made our way around downtown Monterey and stopped in a few shops along the way back to our hotel.

Since we didn't have anything specific on our itinerary, we thought it would be fun to drive along the coast from Monterey down to Big Sur for the afternoon. Every winding turn was one picturesque view after another and it reminded us a lot of driving through the Ring of Kerry and the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland!

There are so many places you can stop on the side of the road to snap pictures and enjoy the different views and scenery.  We also made a pit stop at Big Sur Bakery for some coffee and treats before heading back to Monterey; it was the cutest little spot! If you're ever in this area, I highly recommend making this scenic drive.

By the time we got back to the hotel, we took advantage of our empty itinerary and decided to be lazy and watch TV before dinner. We had such a relaxing and beautiful day, just the two of us. It was definitely my favorite day of the trip!

The next day was a little more busy with a few things we actually had planned! We went to brunch at a little place called First Awakenings, which is right by the Monterey Aquarium. We didn't have time to visit the aquarium, but it was something everyone recommended, and I've heard it's amazing! Justin had golf plans with one of his friend's, so I dropped him off at Carmel Valley Ranch golf course and the views were nothing less than amazing! I managed to snap a picture before leaving, and apparently that was the last photo I took that day, haha.

While he was golfing, I went back to Monterey to have lunch with a couple of girlfriend's from high school who live in Northern California now; it was so fun catching up with them!

Most of our Friday was spent road tripping from Monterey to Southern California. Since I had never been there before, I wanted to check out the So Cal beach life so we made a quick visit to San Clemente! Fun fact: Justin actually lived near this area when he was in the military! As expected, it was beautiful and I'm already scheming of ways to go back for a beach vacation :) We grabbed a super late lunch and hungout at the beach before heading inland!

The whole purpose of this trip was to attend the wedding of one of Justin's friend's from the marines! After leaving the beach, we went to the AirBNB that we were sharing with a group of friends. We spent the rest of the night listening to their throwback stories and catching up on life.

Saturday was wedding day, so we all went out for breakfast and hung out at the house before it was time to get ready to go. The wedding was in his friend's backyard, and you guys, it was so beautiful! I swear their yard was MADE for a wedding!

The night was filled with endless stories, delicious food, and SO. MANY. LAUGHS! Justin hit the jackpot with his Marine Corps friends; they're such a fun group to be around :)

We made our way back to Lexington on Sunday morning, so we said our 'see ya laters' and hopped on the plane to head home.

I hope you all enjoyed our California travel diary! Let me know in the comments what you'd like to see on the blog over the upcoming months :)
