Up until two years ago, I was a dedicated tanning bed user. I finally decided it was time to give up the bad habit and achieve a year round tan the safe way. Over the past couple of years, I've experimented with many self-tanners - lotion, mousse, spray - you name it, I've tried it! There have been some winners, and some horrible losers, but I think I've found my favorite one so far - ST. TROPEZ Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil!
Prior to this product, I was using the ST. TROPEZ Bronzing Mousse for about 6 months. Besides one being an oil and the other a mousse, there's also a drastic color difference. I used the "classic" mousse and it was still very dark on me. I naturally have fair skin, so any amount of tanner on me is very obvious. Don't get me wrong, the mousse was a great self-tanner, but I think it was a little darker than I like. The mousse has a nice olive undertone, so you don't get that orange color, but I wanted something more subtle. Enter, the oil!
The oil has a red base (in my opinion) so when you first apply it, it looks like you were outside in the sun and achieved a tan, which I personally like. The "guide" as you apply isn't as prominent as the mousse "guide," but you can still see where the product is going. Let's talk about the smell! The first time I applied it, it kind of smelt like Mr. Clean. By the time I got to the second half of my body, however, it started to smell like Fruit Loops ....yes, it's weird! When I wake up in the morning, it does have that typical fake-tan odor.
I do everything they recommend prior to self-tanning - shower, shave, exfoliate, and moisturize any dry areas of the skin! I pour some of the oil onto the ST. TROPEZ mitt to apply all over. Obviously blending is key, so make sure you're thorough! It does have shimmer to it, but it's not obvious and it'll go away after a shower. I normally apply it in the evening and sleep with it on. When I wake up in the morning, I have such a beautiful and natural sun-kissed tan! I do rinse off in the shower lightly with body wash to get rid of the smell. ST. TROPEZ claims that the tan lasts 10 days, but I'd say 6 days is more realistic. Just as a reference, the amount gone from the bottle pictured above is after 6 full-body applications and there's still more than half left!
If you're someone who likes a very dark tan, this probably isn't for you. For others who want something more subtle, then it's definitely worth trying! Whether it's year round or for a special occasion, ST. TROPEZ Luxe Dry Oil is the perfect natural, sun-kissed tan!
