Happy Thursday, everyone! I hope your week is going well so far! Justin and I have houseguests coming this weekend, which is always exciting - I love when we have family and friends come to Lexington :) It definitely feels more like summer rather than fall these days, which I have mixed emotions about. I've been force-wearing fall clothes, but let me tell you, that becomes quite a challenge when it's 85 degrees outside (sweat much?). I think that's about to change this weekend, though.
Going through my fall wardrobe, both new and old pieces, there are a few things in my closet that I realized have become staples for me - pieces that I constantly wear during the fall season and purchase year after year. So, I thought I'd share my five fall staples that you might also want in your closet!
My first staple is a plaid shirt - it just screams fall. They're great for an easy, casual look and it always looks cute. This specific top is one of my favorite new purchases. I love the simple white and black design - it's classic and can be paired with just about anything, in any color. Bonus: it's super soft AND less than $30! As Justin would say (sarcastically, of course), "it's so cheap, it's like we're making money." :)
I've been on a big denim-kick these days, so it's no surprise that my second staple is a good pair of comfortable jeans. I think black denim is great for the cooler season (props to those who wear them during summer)! I'm a sucker for distressed denim, but I know it's not for everyone; I just find it to be more casual, especially for black jeans. Good news -this pair does offer some stretch ...who doesn't love that?? They are on the pricey end, but Express offers deals regularly on their denim and other coupons that could also be applied. I've linked similar and less expensive pairs here, here, and here!
Who doesn't love a big, cozy scarf? If you don't, kindly leave this page ;) A scarf was a no brainer for my third staple. All of the styles, colors, and prints make it super easy to throw on a scarf with just about any outfit. I'm a big fan of the blanket scarf ! They're great for bringing along on those warm days, but chilly nights -perfect for throwing over your shoulders. This one from H&M is less than $13 (again, it's like we're making money over here). I love the soft blush tones because it'll go with so many other pieces I have.
My fourth fall staple is, of course, ankle boots. While they aren't just for fall anymore, it's when I definitely wear mine the most! I'm tall and all about the comfort, so this low heel is right up my alley. This style comes in a variety of colors, so be sure to check out the other options available! Note: They're expensive, but they ARE $30 cheaper if you buy them from Dillard's rather than Macy's (the link above and below will go to Dillard's website). I've linked similar and less expensive pairs here and here!
I couldn't make this list and not include a new purse, which is my fifth fall staple! I think it's great to change up your purse/bag every so often, and there's no better time than at the beginning of a new season. A purse is a great way to make a statement with your outfit - whether it's a pop of color or unique design, it can completely add to your overall look. I've been obsessing over everything plum-colored at the moment, so when I found this bag at Target, I couldn't help myself! On top of the color, I love the pattern and details as well - oh yes, and the fact that it's only $30.
I'm always looking to add to my closet, so what are some of your favorite fall staples? Be sure to leave me a comment below and let me know what you think!
