As most of you know, last week my family suffered a tragic loss. While I'm not ready to talk about it, and may never be, it's a loss I'm grieving and struggling to understand. This blog post was scheduled to go up last week, but I postponed it because I simply didn't care to share a silly post when I felt the world was crashing down around me. As I sit here, I'm trying to figure out why I even care to share it now - share something as silly as clothing. Well, I don't have the answer; I just know that I have received an overwhelming amount of support and encouragement with this new hobby of mine and I feel that I should try to stick with it. I can't promise myself that I'll hit my weekly goal, but I can try to find the joy I once had in it. I appreciate and thank all of you who have sent their condolences to my family and me. All we can do is find comfort in our faith and each other at this difficult time. Besides this portion, I haven't updated anything in this post. I wrote it at a happier time, so I have chosen to leave it that way. <3
Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Justin and I have stepped back into reality after returning from our trip, so I spent the weekend running errands and getting back on track with our home projects. Even though our weekend wasn't the most exciting, we ended up having the most beautiful weather in Lexington. I used that as an excuse to break in this new gem, which I've dubbed as the PERFECT summer top!
Have you ever tried on something and put it to the side as a maybe? Well, this shirt was an instant YES, PLEASE! I've really been into fun, flirty pieces this summer and this top is exactly that. It's so busy, yet so simple at the same time. Stripes, pleats, peplum - this top has it all! Bonus: it pairs beautifully with everything. Before I buy clothes, I try to figure out how much wear I can get out of it. Is it just a summer/winter piece? Can it be layered? Is it a "year-round" color? Good news, friends - I tried it on with a duster cardigan, skinny jeans, and ankle boots and it is just as adorable + wearable.
I'm not trying to jump ahead to fall, so in the meantime I paired it with these white denim shorts. I got these last summer and they are my favorite shorts ever! They're very flattering and not too short, which is an occurring problem I have. Since the top is so feminine, I thought the distress of these would compliment the overall look.
I got these espadrille sandals specifically for our trip to Italy, but only broke them in around the house - shaking my own head! I'll assume you're all more intelligent than I am, but don't walk 20 miles in essentially brand new shoes....it won't end well. Well, I'm pleased to say that they're broken in now (they actually are quite comfortable) and I thought they'd be perfect for this look. The neutral color also makes it easy for them to go with everything in your closet.
I've linked my outfit details below, along with some budget friendly alternatives.
